Optics Process Engineer

The SIS group is currently looking for a talented engineer (level based on experience and education) to join its seasoned R&D team. This is an optical engineering role and the person in this role will need to have both wide-ranging technical skills around optics fabrication processes as well as in-depth knowledge of optics geometry and measurement interferometry. Assigned work includes manufacturing process development for optics cutting, grinding, polishing to critical final inspection and specifications. This process development will be evolved with optics wavefront measurement, optical modelling, surface finish tolerance analysis, optical ray-tracing, and creation of key specifications for optical components.

The selected candidate will be part of our R&D team which closely works with our in-house manufacturing partners responsible for introduction of new technologies to our advanced optics and interferometer products. This role will have opportunities to adapt new optics fabrication techniques, transform start-of-art engineering designs into valuable and manufacturable processes, and make key contributions and leadership to develop, document and drive our optics and fabrication processes to deliver products for customer success.

As an experienced Optical Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible to define, develop, test, and release new optics products to our next generation interferometer systems which include assemblies of lasers, precision optics, polarizing thin film coating, fiber optics, and electronics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop new manufacturing processes for optical products with both R&D and Manufacturing teams, per optics design requirements.
  • Provide accurate and detailed processes and requirements such as process flow, cost, yield and throughput monitoring metrics for industrializing and making optical components in house and for outsourcing if applicable.
  • Digest optical component specifications to engineer a robust and manufacturable fabrication process flow and steps for production
  • Interface with opto-mechanical and CAD designers to define fabrication tooling and optics inspection methods for performance qualification
  • Participate designs and feasibility study for opto-mechanical sub-systems, optical components, lasers, fiber, at times using tools such as Zemax, Vode-V or similar simulation programs
  • Interface with customers to determine their detailed technical needs, to present options in a manner consistent with Keysight business principles, often offering out-of-the-box solutions beneficial to both parties

Skills and Knowledge Qualifications

Essential:

  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in Optics Manufacturing, Precision Machining, Optical Engineering, Position Sensing or similar industrial field.
  • In-depth knowledge of geometrical optics and design principles for complex fabrication machines, tools and opto-mechanical designs.
  • Expert in one or more of the following technical areas: optics design, precision opto-mechanics, thin-film coating, and precision glass machining or fabrication.
  • Contributor to think and act independently to translate optics specifications or new concepts into tangible manufacturing processes, with a record of delivering successful designs on schedule.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work well in team environment with people at all levels.

Other Desirable Skills and Abilities

Desired:

  • Direct design experience with precision optics fabrication or opto-mechanical product manufacturing such as lenses, beam splitters, prisms, lasers, optics collimators, telescope or interferometers.
  • Depth knowledge in optics fabrication and optical design is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in using Zemax or Code-V is preferred
  • Direct experiences in optics manufacturing process development is a plus
  • Ph.D., MS or equivalent in Optical Science, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or similar technical field.
