Job Description

 

The NPI engineer is the technical lead for assigned NPIs acting as the single point of contact for hardware and software test issues and who participates actively in the new product lifecycle, influencing the design to ensure manufacturability, enabling prototyping during development, providing manufacturing test development, troubleshooting and performance characterization testing, and managing the transition of the product into production. 

 

Provide product support during NPI phases

 

  • Turn on and troubleshoot components, boards and systems
  • Perform failure analysis and provide engineering support to the technicians, working closely with R&D and OF
  • Facilitate the delivery of Theory of Operation/Troubleshooting Guide to Manufacturing
  • Ensure close linkage and alignment for characterization, DVT, and HALT testing and supporting test efforts.

 

Provide test development resource and support

 

  • Create and gain alignment with the cross functional team for a manufacturing test and characterization test plan.
  • Create/write characterization and manufacturing tests, focusing on data coverage for characterization but optimizing on test efficiency and lowest cost test for manufacturing
  • Create and coordinate prototype unit test plans cross functionally.
  • Collect and analyze parametric data reviewing and aligning with R&D and marketing so that warranted specs, test limits/margins can be set appropriately
  • Provide data in an effective format for cross functional review to define product specs and set test limits
  • Archive test data (to comply with record retention requirements).
Additional Responsibilities

 

Ensure DFx by working closely with R&D team during all phases of the project.

 

  • Ensure product self-tests are robust and effective
  • Ensure Boards are designed to take advantage of built in test capability
  • Ensure hardware is added or hardware changes are made to improve our ability to test
  • Ensure new commands necessary for test are developed
  • Review/Evaluate and participate in setting production line specs based on statistical data analysis. Correlate and get buy in from partners.

 

Drive Continuous Test Process Improvement:

 

  • Review test data periodically with manufacturing to ensure validity and looking for ways to increase test efficiency.
  • Drive solutions to decrease test cost and improve test efficiencies
  • Support and participate in test convergence programs
  • Ensure test solutions compliant with agreed upon convergence and standards.
  • Ensure consistent and up to date test platform and test methodologies

 

Provide Manufacturing support

 

  • Ensure and provide training of manufacturing engineers at Manufacturing site and Support engineers on test methodologies, hardware, firmware, software, etc. for new products to enable long term support
  • Define and  work with Manufacturing and R&D to develop ETs and consult on other required tooling

 

Identify and manage risks and escalations in a timely fashion to ensure that products launch quickly and smoothly, creating mitigation plans as needed and ensuring cross functional team engagement.

Job Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors, Masters Degree or University Degree in Engineering discipline.
  • Typically, 8+ years relevant experience for entry to this level including development experience with HTML, Python/test scripting, C++.  
  • Proficient in building, testing, and debugging software.
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in job.
